I will get my head around Linux :-)
Okay checking the logs last night and I noted that ClamAV was'nt updating, so went through and checked all my settings for "Server Mode Only". Did the internet test and that passed fine.
So dropped into a shell and did "ping db.local.clamav.net" and got a positve response.
So then issued the command "freshclam" and got the following response:-
ClamAV update process started at Fri Jan 15 09:29:14 2010

Just a bit concerned about these WARNINGS. Where am I going wrong???
Software installer shows everything is up to date.
Thanks

Well success on my Virtualbox environment with SME and success with my live home build.
One of the issues I had on the home build was that no matter what I did I had no internet connection, rebuilt 3 times and re-did the setting god knows how many times. In the end I figured is was a DNS issue.
After much GOOGLE searching I found where the DNS record is (resolv.con) and a long winded way of editing that file. Dont know how but the IP address in Resolv.con was not that of my home router (10.194.16.254), which I had set as the gateway.
Soon as I changed the Resolv.conf to reflect my router, everything connected up.
So question is, why did it do this ??? how did it get an incorrect address in Resolv.conf?
I have setup the system as "Server Only", with gateway as my home router.
Just hate not knowing why!! but I did learn a massive amount of stuff re Linux, so in a strange way was a very positive experience.
Thanks
Graeme

You should not alter configuration files directly. They are generated based on templates and changes will be overwritten on configuration changes. Your changes will not stick and you will be back to square one.
Did you assure you configured your servers correctly? Setup the correct IP for the gateway and so on? SME Server is capable of resolving hostnames by itself normally. Could you please outline the network topology accompanied with assigned IP address as to see if you might have made some mistake.

In server only mode, you need to specify your gateway & DNS server, which would typically be your routers IP. The need to change config files suggests to me you did not do that, or did it incorrectly, or have some aspect of your network setup incorrectly. Re-run Configure this server from the admin login console menu
The update warnings appear OK to me. Sometimes a site is very busy and cannot be contacted, so your system tries the next one. Your system did update OK.

Thanks Mary,
In actual fact I had re-run the "Configure this server" at least 4 times, and on every occassion double and triple checked my settings. In the end I had to resort to the manual config I mentioned and all has been well ever since :-)
Thanks

You do not tell us what your settings were, but my guess is they were wrong/inappropriate for your network ie you kept repeating your "mistake".
If that for sure is not the case then you have discovered a bug and should report it to bugzilla.

I will be starting all over again tonight (Practice makes perfect) so will find out if I get the same issue..... Why am I rebuilding, well I guess I did something else wrong whilst "playing"...... now when I add a new user and do a password reset I just get the white screen.
Its no big deal as this is all part of my learning process....Make it, break it, then start over again :-) I really love this application but also need to get my head around it all, far more flexible than any windows software I have worked with....and the bonus being....SUPERB SUPPORT.
Thanks
Graeme
