Title: smtp issue (solved)
Post by: sal1504 on January 20, 2010, 10:27:07 PM
First I have searched and have found nothing on my problem in either the forum or bugzilla, so i am starting here to see if this is a quick fix or something the needs to be reported to the Bugzilla. Three days ago i started having issues with my email. We could not receive any email and when we try to send email we get a smtp error 452. Sorry I do not have the full error. After checking the logs I felt it was either the spamassassin or clamav that was causing the problem. I turned off both in the smeserver control panel. everything worked fine. i could send and receive e-mail without problems.  i then turned off the clamav and everything still continued to work. the next thing was i turned on clamav and shutoff spamassassin, everything came to a screeching halt. I checked the administrator email and all clamav updates seemed to be downloaded and installed without issue. I feel that for some reason clamav is causing my smtp to lock up. Is this possible and if so what do i need to look for to fix this.

Don't report problems here - Please report bugs and potential bugs in the bug tracker

Charlie

I have found that I get a quicker response from the forum than I do the BugTracker and a better explanation of the fix. Plus, I don't think this is a bug since the smtp has worked well for several months and there is no mention of the issue in either the forum or Bugzilla. I think it may be a corrupted file but I don't know where to start looking.

You should check the /var/log/qpsmtpd/current log and see if you can notice the error. My guess is that ClamAV deamon has died somehow.

Stefano - everything worked for several months perfectly, I have several SMEServers that I maintain and this is the only one that has this problem that is why I don't think it is a bug.

Knuddi - This is the type of response I was looking for. THANK YOU. I have checked the logs and can only find where the mail locked up. Is there some way to verify Clamav is working properly from the command line?

if everything worked for months and suddenly it stop, it could be a bug.. are your servers identical each other? I guess no.. so, I repeat, file a bug in bugzilla

Turned out to be a corrupted email from a romanian ip that locked up the antivirus. Thanks for the replies

Please report the details via the bug tracker. Antivirus should not lock up, even (or especially) when given corrupted email from a romanian IP.
