Title: SME as a VMware guest on centos5.4
Post by: jameswilson on February 08, 2010, 12:03:57 PM
I have been having problems with 2 (the only 2) sme VM's but not any of the windows guests.
Due to my 100% belief in SME i have explored pretty much all avenues of it being a host problem and have appied the vmware mod as detailed in the centos bug tracker. (ie making vmware use an older libc lib.)

but im still getting crashes. It appears to be only at high disk IO. If i run a backup the machine will fall over. Usually at the mysqldump phase but semetimes later on.
The VM is using a SCSI emulated disk as the ide ones were not recognised by sme.

last error from the vmware log for one of the machines

does anyone have any suggestions?

Many Thanks

I beg your pardon but I don't understand your problem :-)

is SME crashing? did you try to install vmware tools (http://wiki.contribs.org/VMware_Tools) on SME?

yeah sme is crashing.
I tried installing vmware tools as suggested in vmware docs but this causes the network to fail. SO i took it back off again.

Basically the sme servers crash at random intervals. Sometimes they will be fine for days, other days they will crash 4 or 5 times a day.

I think you have a hardware problem. Do a thorough memory test.

ok will do, but do you think if i had a ram issue id loose the host and or the other virtual machines aswell. It wouldnt be isolated to only the sme vm's?
