I am not a Linux user but i ran into this use for a customers computer that needs the information taken off of it but i can not get it to boot or even upgrade to the latest version to get it to boot. I hope i get a responsive since i know this an obsolete version of this Linux distro
Unfortunately i have no idea what any of that is saying so i didn't even know where to search
I am sorry if this is has been answered before but i was hoping everyone will forgive me just once i am not usually the guy that posts but the information on this server is very critical

The general concept is to boot up to another Linux CD, mount the broken system and recover the files eg using a Knoppix or System Rescue CD, or even the sme server CD, see
http://wiki.contribs.org/SME_Server:Documentation:FAQ#Rescue_Mode_Help
which applies to sme7.x but would still be applicable/useful.

I think sme 6.x had similar functionality but it probably does not matter which Linux you boot up to.
