I found this
http://wolfcastle.wu-wien.ac.at/dist/rhel4-i386/RPMS.at-stable
It has a lot of back releases of of Asterisk and kernel modules for EL4 (SME7)
Might be useful to someone

Just a question ... I am running Asterisk 1.4.21.1 with sail-2.2.4-35 and would like to upgrade to asterisk-1.4.26.1-80
Is this ok with not much or very little or no further upgrading of any other files?
I don't really understand the dependencies so I don't know if this is ok.
Is there anything else that I would need to upgrade to get to this newer version?

You have to find a release of dahdi-kmdl which matches your kernel or you have to upgrade your kernel to one that you can find a match for.
You have to completely remove the old asterisk ("yum delete zaptel" should remove the lot).
Now install the new Asterisk and dahdi rpms.
Now upgrade sail to one of the 2.4 releases (2.2 won'run with dahdi)
Done.
Kind Regards
