Title: E-mail to unknown users
Post by: jon on May 13, 2010, 01:49:41 PM
I'm getting around 10,000 spam emails (literally) a day for a couple of unknown users (jeff69. jeffh69, etc.) for my domain.   I used to simply REJECT these emails as the default setting in server-manager.  However, I'd like to DROP the emails instead of sending them back with a notice.   Is this possible???  I can't find anything in the documentation or in the forums...

Thanx.

I suspect that you are using a multidrop mailbox. If so, that is the cause of your problem. If your domain's mail were received directly by SME server, the messages would never be accepted, and there will be no notices sent back.

There is a description of issues on the use of a backup email server and spam in the FAQ which I guess is similar to the use of a multidrop mail box:

Charlie - thank-you for this.  I tested this with a number of messages sent from other domains and everything is now fixed.

You haven't said what was broken, or how you fixed it.
