When running backup on a couple of machines, it clobbers the CPU for 100% which sets off my alarms from SME Admin. Is there a method to nice the task so it doesn't use 100% ?
Just an idle thought really - it doesn't kill the servers but would be nice to have a bit more under control !

disable your alarm on cpu load, it's a no-sense

Thanks for the reply Stefano.
I thought as much. I like too keep an eye on it in case there is anything running or hogging the CPU that shouldn't be. It also means that when the backup is running, the servers are very slow at anything else. Yes, the backups run at night, and you don't often need other services, but occasionally I do.
I am surprised that ANY service is allowed 100% CPU time ?

you should ask that in kernel's ML :-)
my 2c. don't loose your time keeping an eye on stats, monitor ecc.. SME knows hot to do its job ;-)

Hehehe.
Thanks Stefano. I have no qualms about SME doing the job - it's just MY incompetence I have to double check !!!!!

If you have the backup compression set to anything other than 0 then you will have high CPU usage as the backup has to be compressed on the fly, if you don't have to worry about space on device and wanted to lower compression you can.
