Where can I find out information on version 5.5?

It hasn't been released yet, as it's only in beta.  Any discussion would belong on the devinfo mailing list.  If you want to see the release notes, they'll be in the archives of that list.

Actually, they have put a link to the docs for the new version in the manual section of e-smith.org.

Hmm, sure enough, there is a link there--but it's still in beta.  I'd guess this means that the release will be soon, though...
