i think it might be good to have two new sections, one would discuss equipment and the other for protocol associated discussions.

the other for protocol associated discussions.
Why not use the General Discussion forum? That is what it is for IMHO. What do you mean by protocol? TCP/IP, rules of conduct? Can you please elaborate?

i started to say email stuff, but i thought dns and other subjects would of fit in nicely too.
there just seems to me to be a lot about equipment and communication discussion that would appear to nicely fit in their own categories.
it is just a suggestion to make the forum more useful in my view and there would possibly be more returned visitors to the website on a more regular basis
of course there would always be miss directed new topic posting.
you would know better than me if there could possibly be another category other than equipment or email/communication/dns related stuff as well.

Moving to General Discussions where it is more approrpriate.

Things like this have been suggested before. One of the most overlooked issue that something like this creates is how to deal with a lot of older (and sometimes very valuable) posts.
If you create new sections then there will be thousands of older posts that are not in the correct section.

Which they are possibly now anyways.

I would agree that having a new Forum on "Equipment" could be very useful as we are essentially relying on search to find items in the General forum. An area where people could post about hardware that works - or doesn't work - with SME Server would be very useful.

people should know that any RH certified hw would work.. and nowadays you can find cheap servers from HP, IBM and many more
so, no too much to search.. :-)
