 Having effectively retired from IT support now I decided to pull in my financial horns and concentrate all my email and web activities onto a single server behind a single business broadband feed and I've done this with a 1U Mini-ITX twin-core Atom box with a 320Gig RAID 5 array. The box carries 3 domains and will shortly host my new audio-business website.
The software installation is the very latest 8.0 beta 5 version of the SME server I've been using since version 2 - for which I paid real money and still have the manual and the smart box it came in. I've added SOGo, mainly to keep up with its development since I don't really need webmail now for anything that Horde cannot do. I've also added the truly stellar SME Unjunkmanager contribution that Jesper Knudsen wrote so that my various users can monitor their SPAM every Friday and reclaim any false positives without hassle. With the addition of Tom Ehlert's Disk Snapshot backup program running on my various Windows workstations and storing version backups on the server array I have everything I need: web hosting, protected and despammed email, and a first class backup solution.
So this note is offered as my heartfelt thank you to the developers and the various writers of contributions and my congratulations on the high, high standards you have set and maintained so faithfully - even if Charlie has occasionally ripped me a new one for bothering him without due care and consideration. It is also a strong recommendation to anyone who wanders in here and wonders if they ought to give SME Server a go. Jump in the water is lovely and the company is great.

edit by cactus: modified subject and text to be correct, there is at the moment no 8.5 beta, there is a 8.0 beta 5 however.

Thanks for the positive feedback. I have taken the liberty to modify the version numbers in your post as you seem to have made a small mistake with them.

can i just ask with the release of 8.0 beta 6 how many betas do you guys typically have before a version becomes rc? or does it just depend on how many bugs are in that version. i am just wondering as i have a client who is looking at getting new work stations which will come with windows 7 and he will be looking to set them up into the domain
cheers
Andy

Andy, if you read the release note of SME8b6, you'll see that this will be the last beta release :-)
