Title: error installing glibc-common
Post by: atilla-the-cat on August 16, 2010, 04:52:01 PM
I am trying to install sme 7.5 on an IBM EServer x226.  The install gets through all of the base questions and then aborts with "error installing glibc-common-2.3.4-2.43.e14_8.3"  We have checked all of the hardware and have tried bot a SCSI and a SATA  hard drive with the same results.

Can anyone help me with this error??

All help is greatly appreciated.

The CD drive is good - we actually tried two different ones.  The system had 4GB RAM and we took out 2GB.  The other 2 tested okay, so we tried the install again.  It got all the way through this time (thanks!), but we are getting an error when it boots about disabling interrupt 185.  The error appears multiple times and the server will not boot.

please raise a bug in bugzilla: remember to give all the info and to report the exact error message

btw, is your hw supported by centos 4.8?

[..] boots about disabling interrupt 185.  The error appears multiple times and the server will not boot.

I recently had this issue with my new intel board when trying to install SME Server 7.5.1.  Haven't got my notes to hand but I think the "disabling interrupt 185" was something related to apm/acpi, I tried various boot parameters but proved unsuccessful.  In the end I resorted to using SME Server 8b5 which installs and boots successfully.

Do see if you can install CentOS 4.8 as SME Server 7.5.1 is based on that particular version.

We did finally get the install to complete successfully.  We turned off the SATA and everything seems to be fine.

For later reference, where would I find the centos 4.8 hardware list?

Could you describe how you turned it off in case others come across this thread please.

You just turn off the "planar SATA" in the BIOS.  I also turned off the serial and parallel and used an IDE CD-ROM drive to load.  It loaded okay with 2GB but not 4GB.  This machine originally had an add-in Adaptec Tundra super dooper SCSI controller but I just got rid of that and used the on-board that is also an Adaptec (isn't as fast - no cache, etc).

This was no big deal because we are going from a P4-1.7/512mb/40gb 5400rpm SME server to a Xeon 3.4/2GB/150GB 10,000rpm system for 5 users with 20GB of data.
