Title: blocking torrent downloads
Post by: lexian on September 11, 2010, 06:09:24 PM
Hi, firstly must admit it is my first SME server install and am very happy!!!

I have managed to configure everything I need, the only thing left is blocking torrents been downloaded on the network. I know that it is no full proof way to stop it but I know that if I put in some blocking in it will deter it.

Can you please make some suggestions.

lexan

take a look here (http://wiki.contribs.org/Firewall#Block_outgoing_ports).. BT protocol uses a well defined range of ports (google will help you)

Dansguardian will also stop all sorts of downloads, and you can configure for different users etc. I use it on a site to stop flashplayer movies (stops Youtube & the like) but you can select certain sites (eg tutorial sites) and certain users so they can have access. You can specify other things like MP3 files, MP4 files, exe's etc.
