You should be able to enter your SME server's LAN IP as the "Internet time server" in Windows.

AFAIK it's not enough: you have also to change, via gpedit.msc on windows clients, the type of time server, setting it to ntp

Interesting. What's the default type of "Internet time server" in the world of Microsoft?

NT5DS (I have no idea what the hell is it)
the default timeserver is time.windows.com,0x1

Hello all,
I just set SME to be a network timeserver using the server-manager panel "Date and Time" then point every windows PC to the SME server by IP address.
Has been working for years, even works with Windows7.
No fiddling with protocols in the windows PCs.

Actually, I just checked. I can update the time using the SME server name not just its IP.
eg either 192.168.x.y OR SMEbox both work.

strange enough, with windows xp here it doesn't work for me if I don't change protocol..

Typical Microsoft - make up a new "standard".
