Hi All,
Trying to install Joomla V1.5.20 on a Ibay or under a /opt directory using SME Site Maker, I have got the following error:
Error: the XML response that was returned from the server cannot be processed.
I am stuck.
Any help will be great.
Thanx a lot in advance,
Flávio Veras

hi Flavio:
did you try with Google (http://www.google.it/search?hl=&q=Error%3A+the+XML+response+that+was+returned+from+the+server+cannot+be+processed.&sourceid=navclient-ff&rlz=1B7GGLL_itIT370IT370&ie=UTF-8#sclient=psy&hl=it&safe=off&rlz=1B7GGLL_itIT370IT370&source=hp&q=joomla+Error%3A+the+XML+response+that+was+returned+from+the+server+cannot+be+processed.&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=&pbx=1&fp=51c17303eaadb892)? it seems to be a quite common issue

Hi Stefano,
I did lots and lots of search but I couldn´t find a real solution. Surely now I know that has nothing to do with SMESever. Then I decide to install Joomla v1.5.5 that is working beautifuly.on my SMEServerv8b6 box, under a /opt folder.
Thank you again for your quick response.
Cheers,
Flávio

did you install php 5 (see contrib)

my 5 cents
create ibay, download latest joomla 2.5 zip, (only if you are using SME 8) then unzip and copy files directly into the ibay html folder. then use your browser http://serverip/ibayname/
this way you can run more than one site if you want or a testing site etc.
to install templates / modules copy the unzipped folder into ibayname/tmp then install with "install from directory"
thanks john

I had problems with Joomla 1.5.20 when installing on a test SME 8 beta7 installation so I decided to try 2.5.0.
I did much the same a Hawk.
- Uninstalled Joomla 1.5.20 (deletes the database as part of the uninstall).
- Checked my versions, (PHP 5.3.3, Mysql 5.0.95).
- Created an IBAY for the new Joomla.
- Downloaded Joomla 2.5.0 (full package) from:
http://www.joomla.org/announcements/release-news/5403-joomla-250-released.html
(http://www.joomla.org/announcements/release-news/5403-joomla-250-released.html) - Unzipped to the new IBAY html folder.
- Used my web browser, (Firefox seems to work, MSIE gave errors), to access http://myserver/ibayname
- Followed the install instructions.
- Created a blank configuration.php in my IBAY HTML root folder.
- I copied the text for configuration.php displayed in the last step and pasted it to the blank configuration.php
- Deleted the INSTALLATION folder in the IBAY HTML root folder.
- Used my web browser to go to http://myserver/ibayname/administrator
This all seemed to work well.
Hope this helps

There are XSS vulnerability security issues with v 2.5.0 & 2.5.1 (& earlier versions) so you should now upgrade to Joomla v2.5.2

Thanks for the advice Mary. I will upgrade right now.
