Title: Backup Harddisk damaged (Iomega HD 3,5") - Which new HD should i use?
Post by: anivio on October 17, 2010, 04:55:44 PM
Hi!

My Backup HD (Iomega 3,5" 1TB Select HA) which i have bought 3 monthes ago is damaged. All my backups are stored on this disk.

I need a new one. Maybe two copies to switch them daily.

Which harddisk could you recommend for non stop-operation?

I don't trust in external hd for backup..

I would suggest to spend some money and buy a tape (dlt/lto/ultrium)

Hi Stefano!

I am allready using a hp dat72 tape drive with flexbackup but it is very complicated to restore only one file.

With HD Backup i can use the gui included in the server manager.

If the disk is damaged but the enclosure is OK, just replace the disk. I have done this just to upgrade capacity. I really like Seagate and Samsung drives (but that's my personal preference based on a limited sample and a lot of prejudice).

For not much more outlay (if any) you could set up an old PC as an AFFA box (SMEserver + AFFA contrib) and run scheduled backups. The contrib explains how to configure backups and how to restore a single file.

Good luck
