Title: Samba Excel saving issue
Post by: bandito on November 22, 2010, 09:21:49 PM
I am running a freshly installed (7.5.1) SME server used only as a PDC/File server.  I have only one contrib installed - i-bay letters.   I have several ibays setup with group access.  My users have been getting errors while saving Excel files since I installed the server (sharing violations mainly).  I initially thought it was a oplocks issue.   I searched the forums for a similar issue and oplocks was the only thing that came up as a potential problem.

So I turned off oplocks to the shared ibays but it still happens.  And it happens in their home drives as well.   I turned off oplocks altogether using the global samba setting.  Still nothing.

I started looking through the Samba forums and I came across this bug #4308.

Major enhancements included in Samba 3.0.36 are:

o Fix Winbind crash on 'getent group' (bug #5906).
o Excel save operation corrupts file ACLs (bug #4308).
o Prevent segmentation fault on joining a very long domain name.

Is anyone else having this issue?

SME 7.5.1 is currently on 3.0.33-0.19.el4_8.3.  Is there a way to upgrade to 3.0.36 or apply a patch?

Also, does the SME8 beta use a more recent version of Samba that has this fix included?

Thanks

Please report all problems via the bug tracker.

I wasn't sure this was an SME bug.  There is a bug in the current Samba version.

Bug triage is no longer done in the forums.
If Charlie (who is a leading developer) suggests you lodge a bug, then you are unwise not to do so.
Whether it is a bug or not will be determined in bugzilla.
If this issue is an upstream bug, then the appropriate action to be taken can be determined.

If you are having ms program issues, i would always look at ms for the cause of a problem first. If ms had anything to do with all networking, they would only want you to be buying their stuff and creating issues when you are not on their stuff.
