Title: SME8 Beta 6 and AHCI mode
Post by: nicolatiana on February 03, 2011, 06:26:45 PM
Hi everybody

Making some tests with a Hp Proliant Ml110 G6; the controller is the integrated B110i.
I have found that that leaving my controller in AHCI mode instead Compatible SME 8 installer has correctly detected the controller in AHCI mode and the installation went fine.
Is advisable to leave the server work in this way ?

Bye

Nicola

Nicola,

I can't give you any advice specific to your hardware but I am testing 8b6 on a new Gigabyte motherboard with 2 SATA controllers, ports 0-3 and ports 4-5.       I have my two disks on ports 0 and 1 and the CD on port 4.

Initially I had both controllers set to AHCI and the installation went well.       When I tried to re-install over the old installation the CD was not recognised until I changed the second controller to IDE mode and everything has worked well since then.       Hope that helps.

Lloyd.

I am no expert but i did some reading and from what i read. ACHI is not full supported with this kernel.
As i understand it, Centos 6 with the newer kernel will support ACHI better along with Trim and more efficient virtualization.

I do with there where jumpers on motherboard to set the default mode for the hard drive mode and the default to enable or disable a built in lan card. When the computer loses it setting bc of a cheap battery is not fun. Specially when the hard drive does not boot up and nor does a add in lan card for a system in server only mode.
