Running SME 7.5.1 with all current patches and updates.
Had to remove a Windows desktop computer from the domain and received an error that it was not successful. After working on the computer, I tried to add it back and get an error that the domain doesn't exist of that there is a network problem. I have many other computers connected to the same network and domain without a problem.
I suspect that the removal was not clean and that I need to perform some manual steps to remove the computer so that I can add it back. Windows thinks it's in one state and SME thinks its in another. Can someone point me in a direction?
TIA,
Jim

The specific error received is
"The following error occurred attempting to join the domain "xx":
The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted."
I have 10 other machines connected to this same domain without a problem. I can ping the domain server and I can map a shared drive from the server.
I have found some good information in the forums, but not the exact right answer yet.

Jimgoode,
That error message indicates the problem most likely is with the PC, not SME.
I had a similar problem (many years ago working with NT) and I think the problem was caused by a faulty N/W setting on the PC. The default gateway was set to 192.168.11.1 instead of 192.168.1.1 or something similar.
Check these settings carefully - compare the settings with one of the PCs that can communicate with SME. it may be the cause of your problem.
As a quick check, can you successfully PING SME or one of the other PCs?
Cheers
Ian

This error occurred on 2 Windows PCs. After researching Windows solutions to no avail, I decided to retry and see if the Windows event viewer showed a more specific error condition. As you can already guess... adding back to the domain worked! Go figure.
Thanks,
Jim
