Hi
Has anyone tried to install SME with 1 LAN card and 1 WLAN card.
Then use LAN card to WAN and WLAN as wireless Router.
My plan is to install an SME server as router. Then I dont need a router in my network.
But I don't know if this is possible
Kind regards
Simon

A router is cheaper, and probably more suited to the task.

I Know.
I am going to use the SME server as well. I just want to save my router in my home network.
Then I am having only one box after my modem.

Is your router capable of doing wireless? If so, why not put your server in server-gateway mode and move the router to the internal side and set it up as an access point.

This is exact what I am doing today.
But the whole idea was to get rid of the router. Then I could have a small "green" server / router in one unit.

IMHO you should stay with your router..
what you want to achieve needs many (and big) modifications to SME: so, at the end, you'll have a (likely) unstable server and, for sure, an unsupported one.. do you still want to do it?

take a look to this
http://wiki.contribs.org/CoovaChilli (http://wiki.contribs.org/CoovaChilli)
and may be if you'll use one WiFI Interface can work
it's just an idea
don't figure out how to put that WiFI card in AP infrastructure mode...
at least you can get rid of "security" from your AP if you want to don't mix WiFI with LAN

Thank you. I will look at this contrib. I think this is the best setup.
