Title: Is it possible to browse backup and select files to restore?
Post by: weblance on May 24, 2011, 10:34:23 PM
I'm using standard SME backup to local USB disk. All the files are in 700MB slices. Is it possible to browse the content of the backup files? More important, is it possible to select and restore single selected files?

For example: If a file is permanently deleted on the server and i want to restore just this single file, is it possible to select the file from the backup and restore it?

I've had a couple of incidents where users have deleted important files (before i enabled recycle bin). At that time i didn't use SME build in backup, but used my windows workstation to copy files from the server to a USB disk, so it was easy for me to browse through the directories and restore the files. But i'd rather use SME's own backup because i think it will be easier, better and more reliable.

You can browse using midnight commander as long as you install the mc dar plugin, see one of the Backup with Dar or DAR2 Howto's for details.

Please read the manual and review the options in the backup or restore panel, you can selectively restore single files using the GUI server manager panel.
