Title: VPN/PPTP through E-smith
Post by: Stone Linton on April 01, 2000, 06:20:41 PM
Anyone able to connect to a VPN server on the internet through their e-smith server- using an network-side client machine?  If so, what might I be doing wrong, in not, why?  Thanks.

NT SP5 workstation client machine, E-smith 3x router, @home cable connection.

You don't say what VPN technology you are trying to use, but from the Subject I assume that it is Microsoft PPTP.

PPTP uses protocols which are not supported by the standard IP masquerade feature of linux used by the e-smith server/gateway. There have been some attempts to extend IP Masquerade to support PPTP, and Fran Boon has done some work to use that with an e-smith server. Have a look at http://www.partyvibe.com/e-smith/ and hopefully you will find something useful.
