Title: ddclient - interface
Post by: Lowell Fuher on June 14, 2011, 09:56:26 PM
Is there a installer into the server manager interface for the installed ddclient package (ddclient-3.8.0-2.e15.noarch)  or a help file for the ddclient.conf file?  I'm not sauve enough to get this puppy to function. The sme7-ddclient-3.7.3-7 conflicts.

IIRC you need to remove (uninstall) the old package first, then install the newer.
Search these forums and bugzilla for references to this.
Have a careful read of this

The SME 8 wiki says the smeserver-ddclient installs OK but functionality has not been tested, so please update the wiki when you have tested it.
See http://wiki.contribs.org/SME8.0_Contribs_QA

You will need to correctly configure the smecontribs repo on SME 8 to point to the sme7 smecontribs repo, also see wiki article re how to do this

Out of interest, why are you using ddclient and not the builtin dynDNS client?

Charlie - good to hear from you, been a long time.
My DNS is handled by Zone Edit,  didn't see settings to use their service.  Am I missing something here?  (obviously or you wouldn't be asking the question.)

Got a link?

Have we met?

If zoneedit is not currently supported (don't know off the top of my head if it is) it could be handled simply enough, I'd expect. I don't recall seeing a New Feature Request for zoneedit dynDNS updates.

Youve answered questions and given guidance over the years -

Always used the ddclient interface - always kept things linked up.
Would love to assist with an add in - If I only knew how.

Update - Pulled the ddclient.conf file from the old server (7.5) - transfered to to the new server (8.0b6) with a little editing so it emails when there is an error - corrected the owner and made sure ddclient is loaded in the /etc/rc.d/init.d folder - tested with ddclient -verbose -noquiet      == positive results!
Now i just need to learn how to place an interface in the server manager for editing purposes.

Hmm..  thought I remembered reading somewhere about a developers manual?   :)

Yesp, it is in the wiki:

Most likely you are looking the configuration template section:

First step is to file a New Feature Request.
