Title: qmail timeout extension of timeout (how to??)
Post by: ber on August 18, 2011, 07:02:15 AM
Hi I have a client wanting to forward their inbox to gmail- keep getting timeout issues (appx 2880 emails in the box). Is there anyway of
1. Finding out what the current settings is.
2. Extensing the setting to compensate for my low bandwidth and bulk forwarding of emails.

Thanks

emailo are being transfred through gmails pop connector and sometimes have the same issues with SBS 2003 pop connector as well (if the attachments are large (10MB +) can sometimes cause issues.
The server host appx 100 email accounts, some are imap. and 6 website domains.

I would take a look at imapsync for the imap accounts.. and, if possible, move the pop3 ones to imap

Hi Stephano the imap accounts are being routed through to gmail, so its not an option. They want to run within gmail.  Is there a timeout adjustment on qmail?

Hi I have a client wanting to forward their inbox to gmail- keep getting timeout issues...

So, you need to investigate why you are getting those timeout issues.

I have been having problems with gmail timing out too. I think it is a problem with gmail.

Im not too sure that its completely with gmail- if it is I would like to investgate if SME Email service (qmail) is able to compensate by extending the timeout limit. I find that the the problems occur when either the attachments are large or when transfering emails to gmail or other third party web/email servers.
e.g When transfering the email to gmail, i may get through a quarter of the emails (2880) and then disconnests. I am using gmails pop connector to import the emails when the issues occur. The total data to be downloded for the emails is appx 700MB. Obviously when the process is repeated there are multiple copies of a particular email...
I have the same issues when using SBS 2003 pop connector to pull the emails off the SME 7.52 server.

That can't be true, because pulling messages via pop has nothing to do with qmail. And BTW, there is no 7.52 server.

I don't know what gmail's pop connector is, but the only supported methods of receiving messages into SME server are SMTP (port 25) and multi-drop fetchmail.

Charlie- is there any contribs that I can use to push emails from SME to another email address or maybe a script?

Doesn't going under the user and setting their email to forward to desired address do what you want?

I don't know if the 20M attachment limit gmail has is effecting your situation, but it may need consideration. Could be just a php limit too :)

Hi ive resolved this porblem by simply forwarding emails to the gmail address-should have noted this option in the first place as a simple fix,  still unsure why there were timeout issues. All go for now- still unsure whether I would have these issues when downloading large email traffic in the future- will keep everyone posted- for the time being its a wrap.
