I've just set up a server using 8 beta 6, and was wanting to check that it was OK to restore data from a full backup of my 7.5.1 installation, or will this cause problems?
Thanks.

As far as I know it will work fine, if not it should be logged in the bug tracker.
I'm pretty sure I've done this a couple of times at least.
You need to check that any contribs you are using will still work in 8b6, although many do.

Yes, it's a very important design goal that a backup from 7.5.1 can be restored onto SME 8. If there are any problems, it is critical that they be reported to the bug tracker and investigated and fixed. That said, I think it very unlikely that there are such problems. AFAIK, a backup from SME 5 can be restore to SME 8 :-). It would be interesting for someone to test that.

I have one production server which has been runing 8b6 for around 8 months. It was a clean install, on a new machine, after which I restored backups from the 7.5.1 system that preceded it (which started life as a 7.3 system). No problems, and its been running fine ever since.
