What would be required for Rar in place of Dar for backups
Dar backs up but last time I tried it times out and never restores file, if I want to restore a single file - over 100 Gigabyes files.
Dar has no Windows reader so must be restored via linux - see issue above.
RAR has WinRar as a method of restoring a Rar file.
Thanks, Ken

I am not sure of that is the question here...

That is really big, I doubt rar will handle this properly, did you already test that?
Is there no way of making your files smaller? Did you already look at logfiles to see what is going on? Are you receiving any error message?

Did you already have a look at this: http://sourceforge.net/projects/dar/files/dar/2.4.2/dar-2.4.2-i386-windows.zip

Yes Rar works fine as in WinRar I just break the backups to multiples of 1.5 GIG which lets me do my data files but then the Server and Email aren't backed up.
Using a command line for winrar looks like
del c:\bu\WinrarEven-data*.*.rar
del c:\bu\WinrarEven-data*.rar
c:\winrar\rar.exe a -rr1%% -m3 -o+ -r -t -v1500000k -ilog c:\bu\Even-data.rar \\S2\data\*.*
Perhaps I will have to figure out how to do a CRON job with RAR for the data and try and backup SME and emails with DAR. Its just nice that one can use Winrar for finding a file after instead of trying to use a command line for something that ideally is never needed and is rarely done.
I will check your link but I suspect it will be a command line not GUI interface.
Thanks, Ken

There is a plug in for mc (midnight commander) on SME server, that allows mc to read dar archives. See the DAR2 contrib wiki article re how to install it.
It's not Windows GUI but pretty easy to login as root then type mc and then read the dar archive contents and copy the required file to an ibay.

This is possibly a browser issue. Have you tried using a different web browser, I think IE has problems, try Firefox or others.
A similar issue has been reported in bugzilla a long time ago, so search there.

SME's backup is aimed to a disaster recovery..
usually I set up backuppc to backup the server itself.. so I can restore a single file from a web interface..
