Some people have advised me to use SSH  but I dont know ehere to star.  Can I setup SSH on SME Server so my data can be encrypted?

You post a pretty vague question. Yes you can use SSH, please let us know what people are asking you to use SSH for.

I would like to know if I can encrypt traffic coming in and out of my network using SME Server. Or if I can configure SME Server to do so.

I still think your question is vague. I'm sure that SME cannot force an individual to encrypt data at the far end.

It is quite easy to set SME up for remote access using SSH. It is also well documented. Have a look here:
