Hello,


I am currently running a server on SME Server 7.5.1 on my network.  I am the new network admin at my company and came across one problem child which is this server.  I come from a Debian background so please go easy on me :-).  Anyways, this server is quite unstable and weekly requires a Restart to become operable.  At the top of the server manager page I found the following message:

Warning: a reconfigure and reboot is required before proceeding! Failure to do so now may leave your system in an unknown state!

Now any questions regarding anything new as far as being installed, updated, etc I can't really answer since I have only been here for one month.  Anyways my issue is with the Reconfigure option which can be found at the 'Reboot or Shutdown' section of server manager.  There is absolutely no documentation on the internet including the SME server doc that explains this option in detail so I am oblivious to the after effects of choosing this option?  Can somebody please explain the reconfigure option and what to expect? and if you have another answer to my problem my ears are I wide open.

Hi, welcome here

Reconfigure option "simply" re-generate configuration files and it's totally harmless.

It must be done everytime you update your server AND install any "smeserver-*" or "e-smith-*" package.

Since you are new to SME, I suggest you to read carefully (and at least twice) the documentation.
If you want to know How SME works, you should read the dev's manual too (at least Section 1 and section 2)

p.s. please define "this server is quite unstable and weekly requires a Restart to become operable" as it's very strange.. anyway, if you find something that should not simply works as expected, please open a bug in bugzilla, thank you
