Hi,
is it a bad idea to use sme as an mail / vpn Server on a vserver on the internet?
I mean sme seams to perfect as an home/buisness intranet server but do you think that it would work well on a vserver, too?
Samba of course isn't needed in that case - but for me personaly it seems to be a quite easy way the get a mail and vpn server running. Do you think that this is a possible usecase or wouldn't you recommand that?
In case you say that would be ok - I guess the only choice during installation would be "server only" but I'm not sure what would be the right gateway address...
Sorry for my stupid questions

No, SME Server used as server-only should be protected by a firewall in front of it as it is much to vulnerable to be exposed to the internet. Besides it is exposing too much functionality to the internet like samba to the internet that should not be exposed to the internet.
In server-gateway mode it is better protected but requires two network cards, not sure if that is possible.

Pretty much interested in hosting in server-only mode on vsphere hypervisor free. Hope this can be done without any serious issues.
Just an OT question, since I was seeing that vsphere is a 64-bit only download: which is the reason for no 64-bit version of sme? Lack of human resources or was it the existence/possibility of serious quirks on core components (Mysql, apache) of SME?
