Title: Help with creating web site
Post by: howardr on March 31, 2012, 10:19:00 PM
Greetings all,

I need some help in how to get my html code into SMS server 7.5.

How do I set things up inorder to set a new web site up?

In my CENTOs server I generally FTP the code up to the proper directory and it's done but I don't understand how to get off the ground here.

Searched the SME documentation but couldn't find anything.  Perhaps I was looking in the wrong places.

Any help/direction would be appreicated.

Thanks

FTP isn't very secure ( I enabled it for someone, a year later I see the FTP account was used in a hack attempt! ), so is essentially disabled by default, and best left so.

Look for a program called WinSCP  http://winscp.net/eng/download.php  as a download, it logs into SME and allows secure file transfer and permission adjustments.  I'm assuming a Windows client.

Websites are in ibays,   default is  //home/e-smith/files/ibays/Primary/html, check the spelling though

The easiest way from Windows is to log in as 'admin' on a windows workstation on the LAN, and copy to the 'html' directory of the Primary i-bay (e.g. by drag'n'drop).

I'd be very surprised if this wasn't covered in the User Manual. Have you read it end-to-end? Twice?

From the basics (http://wiki.contribs.org/SME_Server:Documentation:Administration_Manual:Chapter12) and  here (http://wiki.contribs.org/SME_Server:Documentation:User_Manual:Chapter3), to lots  the where, how and what (http://wiki.contribs.org/SME_Server:Documentation:Administration_Manual:Chapter14) and +1 for WinSCP saves the security issues with FTP
