Title: New motherboards supported by SME 7.x

Any experience on new mainstream workstation motherboards supported by SME, unable to detect hdd, lan, ...

you should really move to SME8, and you've got 2 good reasons:
- SME7 is based on Centos4.X that is EOL (see here (http://forums.contribs.org/index.php/topic,48424.0.html))
- SME8 supports new hw

I would not spend 30 seconds to try to make SME7.X to work on unsupported hw

SME 7.5 motherboard died, will I be able to restore backup onto SME 8, and if so how?

yes.. you should be able to restore a SME7 backup onto SME8..

how did you backup your server?

Do some initial basic network configuration to allow the new server to talk to your network and workstation.
Then look in the same server manager panel on your newly installed sme8 server, and you will see a Restore function.
Create the identical backup job (location) first.
Then select Restore.
