Title: Restore from tape - nothing happens???

Help!

I am having some difficulty restoring a tape backup to a fresh install of 8.rc7 or 8.rc6.

The backup was make using 8.rc6's automated tape backup process which reported, via email, what appears a successful backup.

> Total bytes written: 123997028352 (116GiB, 17Mib/s)
> Kilobytes Out 94954240

Restore from tape via the "backup restore" seems to do nothing as the only activity from the tape drive is 4 or 5 seconds of activity (probably doing a rewind on a rewound tape).  Nothing else seems to happens as the tape drive remains silent and there is minimal hd activity.

/root is replaced with the copy from the backup, but nothing else is.

/tmp/extract/nnnn reports the directories expected, such as

./home/e-smith
./etc/... multiple config ditectories
./root
 
Whay am I doing wrong?
