I have installed a new SME 8 server on a VM at a remote location, and I'm trying to restore a backup of our current 7.5 server which is the smeserver.tgz file. Unfortunately the only options which seem open to me are USB or CD - neither of which seems to be possible.
I'm administering the VM via a windows PC at the remote site which contains the tgz file, but I can't map it to the CD or USB.
Can anyone point me in the right direction please?
Thank you.

You are only offered the restore option once on first reboot.
For a workaround see
http://wiki.contribs.org/Backup_server_config#Restore_on_initial_reboot_after_fresh_OS_install_-_How_to_Reset_option
Alternatively try this

Hi mary,
Thanks for your reply. I'm trying your second option just now - I should have searched harder!

....and it's worked!
SME really is an excellent system, and the community/support is first-class!
