Title: New cable connection not working
Post by: David on July 20, 2002, 09:32:03 AM
We have a new cable connection, which requires a username and password. We were using ADSL before with E-Smith v4. That version had a provision in the setup for the password. The cable option does not have the password provision - our service provider requires us to enter one.  We installed SME v5.5 but still have the same problem.

We ask you to appreciate that our ISP might discourage using a server on this connection. We would appreciate any suggestions.

Did You try to setup the server to run on adsl ?
In the server-configuration for External interface Configuration, try to choose "3. USE PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE).
If it doesn´t work, You can allways reconfigure the server...

Cable is too fast. Tie a knot in the coax to slow it down.
