Title: Bizar fault following update
Post by: gbentley on May 24, 2012, 08:10:26 PM
Hi All,

Have an old IBM eServer [P4 2.4 / 512] with SME - been running faultlessly for years. Well, until now. Following last yum update where you have to disablerepo it didnt come back up... or should I say it does but doesnt stay up!

DSL Live CD stays up fine and I have Memtest the ram. So, it has 2x IDE discs, a Via Sata Card and a Tandberg RDX backup disc. So what happens is that it will boot and complain about bad shutdown, get to a prompt then after x number of mins screen just blanks and never comes back plus I cant ping or access server mananger so it bombs bad. I discovered that removing one disc would get stable but once I re-enstated the 2nd disc and a re-mirror started that would be enough to bomb out. So now I have just the one disc but have also discovered that booting with the Tandberg cart in also can produce a halt?

Doesnt make sense. If anyone can offer anything I would be glad to hear from you - I will now put the suspect disc on a full surface scan / test.

Now its bombed with just a single disc. Suspect mobo fault. Maybe time to upgrade to 8.0 also ...
