i have a dead sme 7 box that was upgraded via yum (its a vm on a xen host)
so i have created a new sme 8 on the host and im trying to restore it from the affa backup. But everytime i try and send the key from any of the boxes that hold backups it fails with
Job backup: Sending public key to 10.0.0.1 failed.
im assuming its a key issue but ima bit stuck now.
Thanks
James

....and did you temporarily enable passwords for ssh on the new server
The port number set on the "new" sme server needs to match the port number being used by the affa configuration settings
-
yes mary i have enabled ssh on the correct port and also enabled normal password access. But thankyou for looking.

thought i was making progress but it seems not
[root@smebackupserver ~]# affa -send-key versigolf
Job versigolf: Public key sent to versigolf.co.uk
Error 852 in 'main': SSH connection to versigolf.co.uk failed. Did you send the public key?
[root@smebackupserver ~]#
im at a loss now.
if the public key is sent then it should allow comms?

Try this:
Open up ssh access on the new server, then try to establish a ssh connection using putty from a workstation or another sme server.
That will test whether you have access through to the xen hosted sme.
If you do not have normal ssh access then you cannot expect affa to establish a ssh connection.

Try to delete the saved key on the AFFA server. That's what I was always missing. Clear out the old key, then send new public key, and it will record it.

cheers mate i have another issue with user accounts now. But im filing a bug report

I had a similar issue when I did an AFFA restore from an AFFA SME 7 server backing up a SME 8 Beta7 production server, restored to a SME 8 final server. Everything restored, but all the users had number ID like 33 [33] in WinSCP, and although the users were listed in Server Manager, they did not have a quota.
