Greetings all,
I’ve been trying for the past several days to install phpMyAdmin in SMEServer 8.0 with no success. Let me state for the record that I’m a newbie at this.
I downloaded the tar file for the 3.5.2 English version and place the untared files in the following path:
/home/e-smith/files/ibays/mycom/html/phpMyAdmin
No matter how I try to access the setup/index.php in phpMyAdmin directory using my Firefox browser it doesn’t work. I’ve followed directions from various php docs and nothing has worked.
I.E. www.mycom.com/phpMyAdmin/setup/index.php and all sort of variations thereof and still nothing is working.
I've tried my internal and external IP addresses instead of the www. also.
Any help in getting this setup so at least I know I can get to the setup screens will be appreciated.
Thanks.

Have you checked the available contribution for this package? I have not tried it on SME8, however, according to the Wikis, it works.
Check:
http://wiki.contribs.org/PHPMyAdmin
and
http://wiki.contribs.org/SME8.0_Contribs_QA#smeserver-phpmyadmin
Moving to Contribs section of the forums, this is not a core issue.

Thanks for the reply.
The yum command in the following link:
http://wiki.contribs.org/SME8.0_Contribs_QA#smeserver-phpmyadmin
does not work, as it appears and states that:
No package smeserver-phpmyadmin available.
Could this be caused by the fact that the repository is wrong, not updated etc.???

Chances are this contrib has not yet been ported to sme8 contribs section of the repos. You need to enable sme7 contribs repo to access this package. If not sure how to do this, ask.

Correct, the sme7contrib setting that is.

Being a newbie, would you be kind enough to advise how to set up the repository mentioned above.
Thanks

Actually, I suspect that it is a little more involved...
First of all, you need to provide access to sme7contribs.
From command line as root do (copy the whole of the 6 lines of commands below and paste in your terminal, i.e. putty):
db yum_repositories set sme7contribs repository \
GPGCheck yes \
MirrorList http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/smeserver/mirrorlist/smecontribs-7 \
Name 'SME 7 - contribs' \
Visible no \
status disabled
Next do:
signal-event yum-modify
#Next check results:
/sbin/e-smith/audittools/repositories
addons: disabled
base: enabled
centosplus: disabled
contrib: disabled
extras: disabled
sme7contribs: disabled <----HERE!
smeaddons: enabled
smecontribs: disabled
smedev: disabled
smeextras: enabled
smeos: enabled
smetest: disabled
smeupdates: enabled
smeupdates-testing: disabled
updates: enabled
Note: if you cannot see sme7contribs:disabled, you may have to perform:
yum clean all
#check again using /sbin/e-smith/audittools/repositories
# Then follow http://wiki.contribs.org/PHPMyAdmin using following initial command:
yum --enablerepo=smecontribs --enablerepo=sme7contribs install smeserver-phpmyadmin
Note: we need to enable both the sme7contribs and sme8 contribs (referred as smecontribs) Repos for deps.

WARNING: You now need to run BOTH of the following commands
to ensure consistent system state:
signal-event post-upgrade; signal-event reboot
#Note: ensure that the server enters reboot stage before closing your terminal.
#Then follow the rest of the instructions in the Wikis. I have installed on my test server as above and it is looking OK:
[root@test864 ~]# db configuration show phpmyadmin
phpmyadmin=configuration

I've tried to follow these instructions for installing phpMyAdmin on SME7 and after the
yum --enablerepo=smecontribs --enablerepo=sme7contribs install smeserver-phpmyadmin
I get this error "Cannot find a valid baseurl for repo: base". Any help or ideas please?
[root@databox2 ~]# yum --enablerepo=smecontribs --enablerepo=sme7contribs install smeserver-phpmyadmin
