Title: [SOLVED] Help needed: Sending email over SMTP, without authentication?
Post by: Michail Pappas on July 18, 2012, 01:32:22 PM
Hello, just used fetchmail to import a large number of mailboxes and replaced my freebsd server with the SME box.

My previous setup used POP-3 with plaintext passwords for receiving and SMTP with no authentication (for my local network ONLY) for sending. How can I configure the SME box to do the latter, that is have no authentication requirement for my local users when sending?

At the moment I am denied sending emails to outside domains with relaying as the cause.

I had the impression that disabling SMTP credentials altogether in web admin would do it! Can I configure to have no credentials for say 192.168/16 clients?

Any help will be appreciated!

For the record, I configured access with SMTP or SSMTP authentication and it works. Unfortunately, I have not found a way to disable SMTP auth for relaying, at least for LAN clients...

I must say that I found it strange though that setting "no authentication" in the SMTP auth settings (web panel), still complained about mail relaying... Seems I'm missing something important here.
