Title: 896meg RAM? But I've got 1024!!!!
Post by: Andy MacDonald on July 23, 2002, 04:49:14 PM
Hello gents.
I'm building a toy server for home consisting of a borrowed 700 meg penty 3 running 5.5 with 1024 meg of registered ECC RAM and twin software mirrored 80 gig seagates.
The bios tests out the full gig of memory, but in the boot messages it says "Warning, only 896Meg will be used"
Anyone have any ideas why this would be so?
Have I missed something obvious?

Andy,

Read this thread

http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=4027.msg13911#msg13911

Basically it says that the 2.2.19 kernel used on SME server has an upper limit of 896Mbit of ram.

Hi Jon,
Damn. That is rather embarassing. First time I DIDN'T do a search on the forums. Thanks very much.
