Title: cannot receive external email SOLVED
Post by: jonash on February 01, 2013, 11:52:48 PM
Hi,
From today Im not able to recieve external mails anymore. It is Feb 1, so I guess my ISP has done something..  :?

When I checked my port in "shieldsup", the ports: 80, 443, 465 and 993 are "open". In my router all these ports are forwarded to my SME-server's port. I have also opened port 25, but "shieldsup" says it is "stealth".

There are no entries for received mails /var/log/qpsmtpd/current.

I presume my ISP has started to block port 25. If so, is there another way for me to receive mails?

I hope I dont have to change ISP.. I guess I can do a mail forward in my dyndns.org account

I can still access my mails from my Andorid phone, and send mails; its only receiving which does not work.

Im not sure of which ports are used when.. maybe SMTP is only used for outgoing mails or both in and out? :???:

did you try to restart your router? :-)

yes, even reseting to factory default.. All ports are ok except SMTP(25)..
I tested with ftp port(21) which was stealth until I  activated it in SME..

I guess I need to buy a mail forward service from dyndns.org

BTW: The SME-server is in server-mode only..

I had another chat with my ISP.. They told my that I need to use port 110(!) for incoming SMTP.. :)  So I guess I am on my own here

It sounds like your ISP  is not being totally open or honest with you.

See http://wiki.contribs.org/PortRedirect

Personally if you are going to pay for an additional mail service, then you might as well just change ISP's to one that does allow mail servers on port 25.
It seems your ISP has changed their terms of service, so you are quite justified changing. Where I am (Australia) there are lower priced choices which allow mail & web servers. Some ISP's do allow this functionality, some do not (for the same fee structure), so select carefully & read user reviews of what ISP's offer.

Mary,

I guess they are not honest, or the support doesnt know anything :)

Im in Sweden, so there are not many ISP's to choose.
I bought a "redirection service" from dyndns, and made a port forward to my SME server port 25, and all the mails came in a couple of minutes.

Thanks!

I have used it without paying for years too, but I had to by "Dyn Email Gateway" to be able to change the port.
Maybe I should have moved to France instead. I prefer Côte d'Azur.. :)

I don't know if it is necessary for you but i forward the port 587 to the sme ip, normally this port is the port of smtp authenticated email outgoing.
