Title: DHCP Server
Post by: Ralph on July 30, 2002, 07:19:47 AM
I've been looking for but couldn't find a HOW-TO to enable me to set up a DHCP server that will allow me to do multiple scopes with unique options as well as reserved IP to MAC address.  Is there somewhere I can be pointed to to find this?

Check out this article:

You might also look into something like Webmin.  I use it on a lot of my boxes, and it makes several tasks easier.

...but if you search here, you'll find many messages explaining why webmin on an SME box is a Very Bad Thing (tm).

Yes, you would still have to edit your custom templates and stuff with Webmin, but its great for generating the settings for you if you don't know what you are doing.  Think of it as a example generator.

If you have the time, I think reading the man files, faqs, and posts and learning what things do and why is the best way to go.  If you have to get something up and going NOW, sometimes you take some shortcuts and clean up later.

Just my opinion.  Thanks for the warning on Webmin though, I didn't think about it when I posted.

For reserved IP to MAC address see the fine manual at
