I am trying to restore my SME server from my CIFS workstation backup. When I go to "verify workstation backup", I just get a blank page, "Verify workstation backup". There is no feedback as to what is going on. What is going on? Is there a log I could check?
My CIFS share is on a Windows Home Server and I'm pretty sure I have the right settings and password. Where can I look to see if there are errors?

I had a problems with this before,
http://forums.contribs.org/index.php/topic,45250.msg219439.html#msg219439
That is not the problem this time.

I just tried changing "cifs" to "nfs" and got the following error,
Verify workstation backup
Unable to mount workstation shared folder mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on 192.168.0.247:/\users\Finch,
missing codepage or other error In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so

I ran dmesg | tail and got back,
CIFS VFS: cifs_mount failed w/return code = -6
What does this mean, or where can I find out what it means?

If found this on an Ubuntu forum: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1544651
It may help.
Basically, the path given (in the example above) was in the wrong format.
Good Luck
Cheers

If you still experience this problem, please open a new bug in Bugzilla for sme8 providing as much information as you can.
If not familiar with Bugzilla, check: http://wiki.contribs.org/Bugzilla_Help
There is a section about how to report bugs with a template.
In the meantime, I will try to replicate your issue on a testbox.
Thanks

Well, here is what happened. My original restored SME server was from the download for the full 8.0 version of SME. Thinking that maybe the problem was with this version, I tried an earlier beta 6 version. When I tried to verify the back up, I got an actual error message back and checking further I found I had left a letter of the share directory. Whether this was the problem or not, I can't really say. But I can say that the 8.0 version, even with the updates does not provide feeback when it cannot mount the share. The beta 6 version could.
So, I am restored and the problem is solved. Sorry I couldn't be more help. I am on my way to see if I can restore my backups to the 9.0 alpha 3 version in another spare host. The release of this version says the cifs backups are "incomplete". We shall see what that means.

Comment: I do not recall this, but tested this morning on freshly installed sme8 + all updates, and a cif backup to a WIN7 share works fine. Case close I suspect, I also make spelling mistakes and have to scratch my head... LOL.

Comment: Check Bug 7503 - Workstation Backup to CIFS does not work. Please test and report here:

Best.

Don't make a statement like that buried in a comment in a forum thread. Report the problem via the bug tracker.

I am happy to report that both my updated SME 8.0 and my updated SME 9.0 alpha 3 are able to access my cifs files for purposes of verifying a backup. I have no bugs to report.
