Hi.
Long time SME user, first time poster.
Have a client needing a new server [currently SME 7.x] and would like to get them into an ML310e Gen8.
After extensive forum and general Google searches I've turned up nothing.
Anybody with install experience on these newer HP servers?
I'd prefer to know it'll work before buying the hardware
[I see HP support packs for RHELS 5 and 6 for the ML310e Gen 8]
Thanks in advance,
Andrew

hi
if you can find your hardware here (https://hardware.redhat.com/RHEL5) you can consider you are on the good way.
If i look a bit deeper, i find this for you
https://hardware.redhat.com/RHEL5/&quicksearch=ML310e%20Gen8
Don't be afraid to read the documentation (http://wiki.contribs.org/SME_Server:Documentation:Administration_Manual:Chapter4) and to help the sme project by giving some bucks (http://wiki.contribs.org/Donate) or by working on bugs or new features.
Courage!

Hello Proddev,
did you manage to get the ML310e Gen 8 to work with sme server. I am struggling with the raid controller. SME server installer does not seem to recognise the B120i SATA raid controller. Do you have any suggestions ?
Thanks in advance

B120i is a "fakeraid" controller - disable it in the BIOS and use AHCI mode.

End user eventually chose to have Windoze 2008R2 installed on the the ML310e, even though they had previously used SME for 7 years as a server.
Oh well.... can't win 'em all

Thanks for the info
I switched off the fake raid in the bios (pity); now it works like a charm !
By the way; SME server 9 recognized it without problems (Centos 6 I guess). Somewhat worried to use version 9 in a production environment.

SME9 itself is quite stable, contribs are going to take time...time to test the SME8 ones and see if they work, if they don't what is needed to make them compat and then do the work..
Yep all a case of people needed, with lots of testers etc it would be just a short time to sort the go nogo's, after that god knows..
If the response to porting contribs over is anything like the response to the pleas of help with verifications, well it could be some time..
Maybe identify what you need and do a few tests, post your results, maybe raise a bug against the contrib with your results, it all helps

Do you know what are differences between software development and dynamite.....nothing they are really close
Both need a low energy start and after that you may have a big explosion
Look to http://wiki.contribs.org/SME9.0_Contribs_QA for have a start.
Sometime developers need to find a friend for playing a bit together....look at sogo contribs, nicolas asked that he would it works on sme9 and solutions were found...
How can say that.....we, you have the solution in our, your hands...but of course it is not without efforts
Could you list and test what are essential contribs you need.....and i will have a go
