Hello everyone,
I am attempting to upgrade Samba 2.2.2 to Samba 2.2.5-4 (using Darrell May's instructions ), but I get the following error during install, and then a bunch of garbage after that:

This is SMEServer-5.0_Update4-03, so perhaps that is a problem. I am not in a position to upgrade this machine to Ver 5.1.2, so I need to get this new Samba onto this machine.
Any ideas why I am getting this error? Tips, suggestions? Thanks.

Yup.

Then I suggest you leave samba alone until you are ready to upgrade.

Darrell,
Thanks...that's what I figured. Guess it's time to upgrade. Which brings me to several follow up questions then:
Which version should I choose to upgrade to, 5.1.2 or 5.5? Seems like I have seen postings here about 5.5 issues, so maybe it would be better to move to 5.1.2 for now.
Since this v 5.0 machine was originally a 4.1.2 install - is an upgrade the best way to go, or should I do a clean install and then somehow migrate the user data and accounts onto the new installation?
Is there even a simple way to migrate user accounts and data to a clean install?
