Title: SME 8 install on PowerEdge R320

Hi all ,

I was asked if SME 8 can be installed on a Dell PowerEdge R320 and glibly answered  "Yes , of course" instead of saying, Let me check.

So let me now check. Has any one installed SME 8 on this hardware ? I searched on the CentOs site and found no gotcha's and the machine seems to be supported by Rhel.

The Red Hat support Matrix ( updated 19August 2013 ) shows :
RHEL 5 x86 :  RHEL 5.7 (and higher)  and  ( SME 8 = CentOs 5.8 = Rhel 5.8 )

The Server specs i was given where for : Dell R320 Intel E5-1410 ( 2.80GHz, 10M cache, 6.4GT/s QPI, Turbo, 4C ) 16GB Ram 3x 1TB SAS 7.2K Drives

I don't have hands on the equipment yet ( expecting to in the next 3 days ).
Does anyone know of any surprises / experienced any surprises on this hardware ?

Just curious - I'm looking picking up several PowerEdge R320 - did you have any issues with putting SME8 on that box?

I think you'll have only to take care about RAID:
- probably you must use SME raid if PERC S110 controller is installed (I suppose is the entry level one with fake raid support);
- with PERC Hxxx you have the choice to use native raid or SME raid (verify if using native raid you can configure some monitoring/alert tool - if not SME raid is a better choice);
- with PERC S110 (110 seems an Intel controller like hp B110) maybe you can simply set the sontroller in Sata mode (no raid);
- with PERC Hxxx + SME Raid 99% you'll have to configure each disk as single-disk logical volume to be detectet by SME installer;
In a few days You'll be able to give us every detail about the hardware.

No problems at all. I'm using the PERC H710 raid controller
