Title: connection status log
Post by: Dave on August 07, 2002, 08:38:24 PM
To all:

Is there a log file that I can look at that is specifically for internet connection stats?  Our ISP is not the best, reliability wise, and in the past we've experienced frequent sometimes long term outages.  Since I've set up the SME Server, we haven't had to do any manual reconnects (the prior gateway setup required manual intervention when the connect was dropped) which tells me that either our ISP has solved their problems (doubtful) or SME attempts to reconnect if it sees the internet connection is down - which is perfect.

One of the problems though is we appear to have intermittent email functionality.  Sometimes others will get bounced emails sent to us and other times it's delivered properly.  I'm thinking we still have ISP issues but now that our gateway will reconnect automatically we don't see the outages.  If there's a log that shows this info that I can use to generate statistics about when outages occur, how frequently and what the duration is, we can approach our ISP and either get credits or actually prove to them that the outages are NOT the fault of our setup - which has almost always been their response.

Thanks for any info,
Dave

If you download eneo sysmon you will get a nice graph of your ethernet packets incoming/outgoing and ppp traffic incoming/outgoing as well as ping stats and a few system stats.

I know it works beautifully for 5.1.2 but needs a small adjustment for 5.5

What are the couple of small adjustments needed?
