We run some windows code from workstations that attach to shares on SME 8.0.
After the latest kernel update in SME 8.0, I noticed a speed up of the processes.
The windows xp based workstations processes read and write small portions of records.
The program was written inefficient to be run on database files that exist on a server with oplocks turned off in samba.
I am not sure where the speed up actual is occurring from.
It could be the networking, how the kernel accesses files, a faster kernel, or possibly something else.
But i can say, something happened with the SME 8.0 software that make a significant difference.
How i picked up the difference was that i was in doing work to get better performance.
After an SME update that came just before beta 1, WHAM! results increased after an update.
I am using some Realtek networking components. As i understand, there are much better networking cards. Supposedly from Intel.
I am thinking that the software drivers for the Realtek components might of got updated. But i have no proof. But something kicked in that made a real impact in these workstations performing better with the SME server.
