I am using e-smith v 5.0 . I have installed it in gateway server mode. I am able to ping on my global IP (eg. 202.54.23.1) from the internet but when i try to send a www request i am not able to get in (eg. http://202.54.23.1). Also i am able to send mails to the external world but and not able to receive mail. Is the DNS only for local network? If yes then how do i configure a global DNS?
thankx

Http problem - your provider might be blocking inbound requests on port 80 (default http). Some of them do this because of the Nimda virus. To get around this, you would have to change the default listening port for apache (there is a how-to on this).
If you have a provider (Roadrunner, for instance) who blocks ports, you might invest in a redirection service like easydns. This makes it easy to make redirections like www.domain.com -> IP_Address:port.
You do have a domain registered, right?

thankx phil.. yes i do have a domain registered. i guess i will have to check with my ISP in order to know if they have blocked port 80. well if i redirrect the http requests to another port dont u think it might have a conflict with the built in ipchain rules ?
thankx :)
