Hi,
I just migrated from my SME7.6 -> 8
I had no error.
At reboot, everything worked except the GUI.
I tried to do an update and there I had compatibility issues (with hwdata package).
I removed it with dependency
Removed:
hwdata.noarch 0:0.213.26-1.el5
Dependency Removed:
hal.x86_64 0:0.5.8.1-62.el5

usbutils.i386 0:0.11-7.RHEL4.1
usbutils.x86_64 0:0.71-2.1
I reinstall it.
But I cant' reinstall dependencies : other compatibility issues (with glibc for exemple).
file / usr/share/i18n/charmaps/IBM1047.gz from install of glibc-common-2.5-118.el5_10.2.i386 conflicts with file from package glibc-common-2.5-81.el5_8.2.x86_64
So, I wonder if I havn't done an update of a SME7 32 to SME8 64. :-(
[root@smeserver /]# uname -a
Linux smeserver 2.6.18-308.4.1.el5 #1 SMP Tue Apr 17 17:08:00 EDT 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
What do you think?
How do I get out?
-
I think you should install a clean SME8 64bit and restore from the backup (you do have a backup, don't you?)
-
yes, I do a backup via 'console -> usbdisk'
(always doing a backup... always....)
-
ok..
then wipe your server, installa a fresh and clean SME8 64, then restore from console.. done :-)
-
restore from console ? <=> load the smeserver.tgz during the install ?

Pretty sure Stefano means:
Restore from USB at first reboot after installing the OS.
You will be prompted to connect a USB disk that has the backup file on it.
If you skipped this step already (you only get asked once), then either reinstall the fresh OS (wiping what is already on the server) or use this workaround to reset the Restore option at first boot.

ok. thanks.
will try next week...

That doesn't work, and it would be better if the CDROM installer prevented you from even trying.

sure, it would be great -> no possible error :)

sure, it would be great -> no possible error :)
The way to achieve that is to lodge a bug report in bugzilla asking for upgrade from 32bit to 64bit systems to be better handled/prevented & for appropriate error messages to be given, quoting your specific experiences. Your contribution to improving sme server is appreciated.

done : http://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8054

This is already implemented for SME 9 but that solution is not valid for SME 8.1.
-
For information, i did last week a fresh sme8 install with the usb retore.
All is clear now.
PS : bug also fixed : http://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8054 (thanks to dev...)

Thanks for the confirmation, Charlie was able to make a solution that works with SME 8 as requested in that bug.
