hi all
i have installed sme8+sogo (based 64bit) and i try to connect with outlook professional 32bit, with exchange tipe http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyECXtXaXx0&ytsession=2QPJF9XtxTL6O0tayQwCL_lYztE9oJNsMUoyKjFBduPNQQVSKzNN0Mgsuw4l4O_3mTmO-yI2N6qzoG5bBi8iCfbLGXkIFcunCmvHmlEI28PkDZYFRNrZUKyr7G_6vIxcgyynRJDFyAa7pFAmbDoi3Jht0b6vUUT1CbvvqUYR9yZPMwkpCHDvoox85Hov7CvZTeNQ2BHehvBBg8tfNSLmTN7SuQe6vqg8qDSt0-PWWqMHRkjigLvbkM18U4Py1Ig0Q15scfT9RuLDx9HSso1XLHu2gVQT-UBthjhfsfpum53CCFBfCq_2Tm3J0qyr7dhSdnE8M9tftkAVtftszHYK6gDvEy4RGRKZ0TzvYzGciUwjO5TTxNJNebbn47JqBsQfWcCRIdY2phrwu7gUNQwvwVBY1wX5xEoLtDA_CGREKHststI5gTYb2n6XUs4nzhbWWcQPf4TYRxV5qZtnInKxWRES0ZxuMeba2KooeXf_dqfujuwDDIABjQns5FGfi3C8TaTFk3DgieXhazfno0Z1wYYxHs0s9xpko01yQgd2DlqHHxNGoed_UCyRTSNe2RUdp4qIo7WuShA8n2Dleya_qfLdanVYxVskI4OA9X6TapaVFZWLor3DHkFED1SuPlZPG2kWAw0eKSsbaL6RV9twoM8ddg-FUd2s5CLpDhnLFNg (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyECXtXaXx0&ytsession=2QPJF9XtxTL6O0tayQwCL_lYztE9oJNsMUoyKjFBduPNQQVSKzNN0Mgsuw4l4O_3mTmO-yI2N6qzoG5bBi8iCfbLGXkIFcunCmvHmlEI28PkDZYFRNrZUKyr7G_6vIxcgyynRJDFyAa7pFAmbDoi3Jht0b6vUUT1CbvvqUYR9yZPMwkpCHDvoox85Hov7CvZTeNQ2BHehvBBg8tfNSLmTN7SuQe6vqg8qDSt0-PWWqMHRkjigLvbkM18U4Py1Ig0Q15scfT9RuLDx9HSso1XLHu2gVQT-UBthjhfsfpum53CCFBfCq_2Tm3J0qyr7dhSdnE8M9tftkAVtftszHYK6gDvEy4RGRKZ0TzvYzGciUwjO5TTxNJNebbn47JqBsQfWcCRIdY2phrwu7gUNQwvwVBY1wX5xEoLtDA_CGREKHststI5gTYb2n6XUs4nzhbWWcQPf4TYRxV5qZtnInKxWRES0ZxuMeba2KooeXf_dqfujuwDDIABjQns5FGfi3C8TaTFk3DgieXhazfno0Z1wYYxHs0s9xpko01yQgd2DlqHHxNGoed_UCyRTSNe2RUdp4qIo7WuShA8n2Dleya_qfLdanVYxVskI4OA9X6TapaVFZWLor3DHkFED1SuPlZPG2kWAw0eKSsbaL6RV9twoM8ddg-FUd2s5CLpDhnLFNg) but it not run.
Outlook say me: "impossible to determine the name server or name mailbox".
On sogo on-page i see whis:
SOGo offers native Microsoft Outlook compatibility using the OpenChange [External] backend developed by Inverse [External]. This means Microsoft Outlook 2003, 2007 and 2010 can talk directly to SOGo — just like if it was a Microsoft Exchange server. No plugins are required in Outlook to make this work.
some suggestions?
-
Native Outlook connectivity in SOGo requires samba4, which is not available (at least easily) on SME Server. IMHO, SOGo is a great software (I use it a lot), but the native Outlook connectivity is still alpha/beta and shouldn't be used in production yet anyway (read the limitations in their documentation)
-
hi daniel, tnx for your reply
so, the problem is that sme+sogo+ samba4 is very hard, otherwise sogo+samba4 (without sme) is a good situation for outlook?
another question: funambol, is not an applicable solution? (workaround)
-
Samba4 on SME is a huge task. But, even without considering SME (just SOGo + samba4) I personaly think native outlook connector in SOGo is not mature enough to be used in production.
I don't know for Funambol (Funambol connector on SOGo is working for BlackBerry devices, but I never tried with Outlook).
I know it's not possible everywhere, but you should give Thunderbird a try. With the various extensions (sogo-connector, sogo-integrator, lightning), it's really a great exchange+outlook alternative
-
ok, i understand
but: can i use outlook professional 2010 with imap account, and them can i use "shared calendar function"?
It's very important.
However, i am thinking to migrate all my users to use thunderbird :D

Not sur how to use the Shared Calendar feature on SOGo with Outlook as client. But IMAP will work (well, if we considere Outlook to be "working")
However, i am thinking to migrate all my users to use thunderbird :D
If you can migrate all your users to Thunderbird, you'll be able to use shared calendar (and addressbook)

ok
how about you of zafara with sme8?

I have SOGo 2.2.2 running on my sme8 64 bit Server, I would like to know if the outlook 2010 client is supportet and fully working now before I buy this ms-software... ?
-
1) SOGO natively supports CardDav, CalDav and now ActiveSync (still on-going and not completely refined).
2) SOGO + OpenChange + SAMBA4 gives a full "emulation" of an Exchange server (never tried but I suppose working).
3) Every Mail Client with IMAP capabilities can work with Sme Mail services without any contrib; Outlook at least until 2010 was not very fine in this (at least on my opinion).
You can try to connect Outlook with ActiveSync (I suppose this is working only on Outlook 2013) but I strongly suggest the use of Thunderbird with Inverse plugins (SOGo Connector and Integrator).
TB is free and fine and almost everything you can do with Outlook can be done in Tb with the added-value of several TB plugins-extension that help you to improve-extend the software capabilities.

OK, thank you nicolatiana for your summery...

Hi,
Did somebody tried zentyal 3.4 ? (http://www.zentyal.org/2014/03/zentyal-announces-zentyal-server-3-4-a-new-linux-small-business-server-release/)
It has native MAPI-support (Samba4 + SOGO + OpenExchange).
Does it have limitations ?

There is also the possibility to use only the Browser (sme8 + firefox), with this method is there any restriction in functionality ?
-
No, not real limitations in calendar and addressbook; something missing in rules, filtering ecc. in the mail. More or less the same differences that you notice between Outlook and his counterpart Web on Exchange or in Groupwise where the "heavy" client has full functionality. Usually I find a lot of "resistence" in users . . . .

this should be asked elsewhere, shouldn't?

This is the SME forum: we're not the best people to give help about a competitor software. Don't you think so ?

@ Stefano
YES.
@ nicolatiana
I am not sure if it is possible to have more than one mailaccount under the webmail-window ?
-
Yes, you can insert multiple account. The Ajax interface acts exactly as an IMAP client, so in mail configuration tab You can further accounts like you do in TB.
Try it

Hi,
I wasn't asking for zentyal-use but for the limitations of an implementation of SAMBA4+SOGO+Openchange.
Goupware-choice is still on the wishlist : http://wiki.contribs.org/SME_Server_wishlist
Why should i ask it elsewhere if SME-community didn't made a choice yet and sharing experiences could help the discussion ?
Advertising zentyal wasn't my goal, and i hope we can have an open mind on mentioning other distributions if its about the implementation of the software they use !

frifri..
SAMBA4+SOGO+Openchange is not yet production ready AFAIK..
you should search SOGo's ML to find the limitations and issues
no one here AFAIK is using such a solution
I would add that your question is exposed in a bad way: re reading it, I still understand you are asking for info on zentyal, not on SAMBA4+SOGO+Openchange ;-)
-
@Stefano,
Thanks for your opinion about the maturity of SAMBA4+SOGO+Openchange.
I sure wasn't asking for limitations of zentyal in a smeforum ! :-)

@ nicolatiana
Yes very easy, thank you ...

im testing sogo and sme. Ive decided to go the thunderbird route but would prefer outlook. But there are issues with activesync. It sort of works with an old android device I have (htc legend) but will not work with my Lumia 920 or my surface. once sogo sort these issues I can drop my exchange 2003 server.
