Title: E-Smith Help
Post by: Jared on August 11, 2002, 04:41:46 PM
When I first put e-smith on, I had DNS issues. I'm using telstra broadband cable, and I couldn't resolve any address, because e-smith wouldnt find the DNS servers, thus nothing worked. I finally got that fixed, by manually putting them in. (If anyone has that trouble, just add the DNS name servers to the 20nameserver template, and rebuild them.)

Anywayz after resolving that and I ran into another problem.
I cant seem to get my e-smith box working using squid. I wanted to use squid as a tranparent proxy (just for the caching), but couldn't seem to get it working. Before using e-smith, I was using Mandrake 8.2 and using IPChains to share our internet connection, and had no problems. I want to have the same sort of setup, but be able to have a cache and use the other cool features with e-smith.

I couldn't ping any domains and get a reply. It would resolve the name but I wouldn't get any replies., thus the web wouldn't work either.

I need help :(
If anyone can help me out, I'd be very appreciative.

it sounds like your ISP is blocking access.

Can you do a port scan from out side your connection and see if the ports are open.
